We all love football. Seriously, who doesn’t So much passion, intensity and power are present in every football game played on the field. Football is truly America’s game; no wonder it’s called American Football. But even with it being one of the most watched sporting events in the world and having a following to the millions, some people are just not satisfied with the game and believe the sport should be tweaked.
In a recent interview with The New Republic, US President Barrack Obama expressed his concern over the violent nature of the game. Although he revealed that he was a football fan, the president said he would have second thoughts encouraging a child to enter the sport.

“I’m a big football fan, but I have to tell you, if I had a son, I’d have to think long and hard before I let him play football,” the president said in the interview.
“I think that those of us who love the sport are going to have to wrestle with the fact that it will probably change gradually to try to reduce some of the violence.”
Although Obama acknowledged that changing the game could make it less exciting, “it will be a whole lot better for the players, and those of us who are fans maybe won’t have to examine our consciences quite as much,” he added.
His remarks were received with different feelings; some of the players agreed with the president’s thoughts to evolve the game, while some found his statements annoying.
According to Baltimore Ravens safety, Ed Reed, Obama was right on target. “I am with Obama,” he said in a report by Fox News. “I have a son. I am not forcing football on my son. If he wants to play it … I can’t make decisions for him. All I can do is say, ‘Son, I played it so you don’t have to.’”
He also added that the medical system of the games could use some upgrading for the safety of the players.
“We’ve got some leaks in it that need to be worked out,” Reed shared. “Every medical training room should be upgraded; training rooms can be a lot better.”
However, other players had a different view on Obama’s statements. 49ers cornerback, Tarell Brown, said that though football is “a dangerous sport,” with proper training, a player can take on the physicality.
“I can understand what President Obama is saying, but at the same time, the league is putting in things (for safety),” Brown said in the Fox News report. “It is a physical game if you are passionate about it and are trained the right way.”
As to how the NFL management would react to the president’s remarks has yet to be seen.
